Handling of Abnormalities
Abnomality Definition:
Abnormalities can generally be thought of as anything that is not the way it should be i.e. “Abnormal”
One of the objectives of AM is to cultivate the skill of people to identify and handle abnormalities. To help develop broad skills in this area, abnormalities are subdivided into 7 different types. Stratifying abnormalities by the 7 types, causes people to develop deeper inspection skills and helps ensure we are addressing the potential causes of equipment, material, and effort losses. Below is a table showing the 7 types of abnormalities, the intent of the category and examples.
Seven Types of Abnormality:
DOCUMENT FINDINGS: TAG ABNORMALITIES USING TAGGING PROCESS
These abnormalities should be tagged using the tagging process.
Tags are important because they:
1) Clearly identify the location of the abnormality
2) Start a process by which the abnormality will get tracked and ultimately corrected
3) Provide a visual indication of the AM team’s progress against correcting abnormalities enabling at a glance progress assessments against equipment restoration
4) Highlight the area of the equipment with the most abnormalities.
5) Provide a tool to facilitate skill development. (ability to identify and fix abnormalities)
6) Encourage behaviors of taking action against abnormalities and the approach to “zero”
